Parents’ Sharing
We are lucky to have a
school community where everyone is involved. This morning I invited a parent to
share information about her business to my second graders. We were all excited
to find out what she does. She told us the nitty-gritty of her business.
Our Unit of Inquiry about, ‘How
systems of exchange affect people’ seems challenging, but it is possible that
seven and eight years old can understand how businesses function. We reflected
on the presentation using the 7Ps. Namely:-
Product, Price, Profit, Promotion, People, Place, Packaging
Learned and adapted from a marketing course.
This made the presentation
child-friendly. Who would have thought that this adult idea would be so captivating? They asked many leading questions and found out even
more.
Giving students
opportunities and exposure helps them understand and learn.
Parents can be wonderful as a resource. They have a wealth of knowledge and expertise. It's great when they are willing to come to school. I am curious about your unit and how you teach it in second grade. We have an economy related unit in grade 4.
ReplyDeleteGreat example that "It takes a village to raise a child". We are missing out if we don't tap into that more often!
ReplyDeleteI think it is also great to help other adults see how to teach more effectively. It is an opportunity for them, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your last sentence. Thank you for sharing.
