Using Symbols
At my
daughter’s conference, it only took a few minutes for her to explain the kind
of learner she is, using symbols.
She
talked about wanting to feel safe and chose traditional Ghanaian symbols to
portray that.
Being an
inquirer she likes to ask questions and used the symbol of question marks.
She
shared some of her feelings by drawing faces with different expressions. She used
the spiral image to symbolize leadership and energy.
“Sometimes
you have to take action,” she said.
What she
loves to do is build and be creative. She used screw drivers, wood and hammers,
to represent that.
Helping
students understand the kind of learner they are can help develop independent
learners. I believe these recognized traits will help my daughter within the
classroom and everywhere.
I
appreciate this activity and her teacher.
This artwork is beautiful as well as symbolic of a narrative of your daughter's personality. What a wonderful activity to do with kids, helping them see themselves as unique and special.
