Praising

It’s amazing how a gracious comment can make you feel.
Walking across our school playground, I was stopped by one of the Teaching Assistants’.
She said, “I have been watching you. You always look very smart.’
She went on to say, ‘You must have been a very stylish lady when you were young.’ She was all smiles and meant what she was saying. I was flattered.

I told her, I did not feel ‘smart’ at all that day and thanked her for the kind words. I felt over the moon by her comment as I really felt drained on that Friday afternoon.

Being honest, choosing the right time, and sharing kind words with others has a strong effect on them. We should gauge the situation, and ensure it is conducive, so as not to seem offensive. Spreading our admiration or concern can make a difference. It is just like giving feedback to our students.

‘It’s amazing how a sweet comment can make one feel.’

I think about my students and how a constructive comment can influence how they perform. They suddenly perk up and get motivated.

  1. This is so very true. This is my first time blogging, and I was insufficiently prepared for the swell in my heart every kind comment would bring. "You always look very smart," what a wonderful and beautiful compliment! Thank you for bringing this back to heart for our students, too.
